Kate Havnevik
Mostly okay, occasionally dire, folky downbeat of the ‘quality female voice crooning over lush orchestral strings and sequenced electronic beats’ variety. Certainly not as innovative or interesting as fellow Scandinavian Bjork, but not completely trite either. The perfect comedown CD for all those progressive trance parties you’ve been going to lately.

Liam Finn
I’ll Be Lightning
An appealing debut solo album from the Finn the younger, whose gentle introspective rock will be welcomed with open arms by the sixties-obsessed, Flaming Lips-loving sector of the record buying public. The playing and arrangements are great, but there are perhaps a few too many frilly Beatlesisms. Finn’s songwriting is best when it is at its most direct (‘Remember When’).
